Ports pointing toward the assembly’s mounting plane conserve a significant amount of side space, and reduce the size and weight of the enclosure cabinet.

Often the hosing or tubing routing for the cooling fluid is an after-thought in assemblies using SCR Heat Sinks. This is worrisome because, in most cases (and especially in SCR Heat Sinks with ports that oppose each other), the space requirements for interconnecting or looping the hoses from block to block is very demanding. Ports pointing toward the assembly’s mounting plane are generally significant in space conservation. But how can this have an effect on total cost and weight?

Typically, final electronic assemblies are housed within some type of enclosure. If the coolant hosing can be routed in a very compact manner, the real estate requirement of the electronics assembly will have a weighty (excuse that pun) effect on the size of the enclosure cabinet. Reducing the enclosure’s size will reduce the enclosure weight! Therefore, reducing the enclosure’s size also reduces cost!
